Reviews by Karan Johar Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul was allegedly saying “wrong things” in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

With the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in the key roles, Karan Johar made his directorial debut. Even while the movie is still very popular, KJo recently criticized it and acknowledged that he mishandled the gender dynamics in it.

On Friday at an IIMUN event, Karan was promoting his forthcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani when he said that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai “propagated wrong gender politics.” “I think I’ve changed as a person. My first movie, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, had gender politics that, in my opinion, were completely incorrect. It is promoting erroneous gender politics, and the movie is really surface-level. Naturally, there is nostalgia, so you like it, but you don’t go further into the story to realize that what Rahul is doing isn’t what I would want all the other Rahuls in the room to do, or all the lads in general,” he is quoted as saying.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-89391″ src=”” alt=”” width=”1021″ height=”572″ srcset=” 300w,×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px” />

Rahul, played by Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was further criticized by Karan, who went on to remark that the character committed “all kinds of wrong things.” “Rahul was saying a lot of inappropriate stuff. He said that “We fall in love once,” but he really fell in love twice. He was married twice despite saying, “Hum ek bar shaadi karte hai (We marry once)”. Throughout the whole movie, he kept contradicting himself, KJo said.

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, the film that Karan Johar directed, is now preparing for release. The movie, which marks Karan’s return to directing after more than ten years, has Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the key roles. The movie will premiere in theaters on July 28.
