Stop PAN Card Abuse: Follow These Steps To Report Fraud And Verify Status

There have sometimes been reports of financial frauds or the abuse of papers like Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards. In a case that came to light a few months ago, cybercriminals obtained credit cards by using the PAN cards of various celebrities. The Income Tax Department of India issues the PAN card, a crucial form of identity. It acts as a special identification code for people, businesses, and other organizations that must pay income tax in India.

PAN Number: What Is It?

The Indian Income Tax Department issues PAN cards, which are individual identification numbers with 10 digits of alphanumeric data. For tax reasons, the PAN card acts as a special identifying number for both persons and companies in India.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-80472″ src=”” alt=”” width=”1321″ height=”740″ srcset=” 300w,×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1321px) 100vw, 1321px” />

PAN cards are provided by the IT Department in the form of laminated cards to those who apply for them or to those to whom the department automatically assigns the number without an application.

What Is Misuse of PAN Cards?

To minimize any damage and protect your financial security, it is essential to act right away if you have concerns about probable PAN card abuse. Follow these procedures to check and take action if you believe your PAN card has been abused:

Review your financial accounts frequently:Check your bank and credit card statements, as well as any other financial activities, for any unauthorized or unusual activity. Look for transactions that you are unfamiliar with or that you did not start.

Keep an eye on your credit report:Obtain a copy of your credit report from a credit agency (like CIBIL) and check it to see whether your PAN card is connected to any unauthorized accounts or credit applications. Report any errors you discover right away to the credit bureau.

Verify your account with the income tax department:Visit the Income Tax Department’s official website and log in using your PAN card information. Examine your tax returns to be sure there are no errors or unauthorized adjustments. For instance, you may review the information on Form 26AS.

Inquire with your bank or other financial institution:Inform your bank or financial institution right once if you come across any fraudulent or questionable transactions. They may assist you with account security, blocking any unauthorized access, and problem investigation.

File a police report: Contact your local police station if you have strong proof of PAN card abuse, such as fraudulent financial transactions, identity theft, or unauthorized access. Give them all the necessary information and supporting records.

Make a call to the income tax division:To report the suspected abuse of your PAN card, contact the Income Tax Department’s customer care hotline or go to the office that is closest to you. Give them the data and records they’ll need to support their inquiry.
